In June 1980, the XA2, which was based on the XA and had improvements for beginners, was released. By focusing on program AE and a 3-point zone focus (auto pan focus), it improved ease of use and cost performance. To prevent forgetting to switch the focus, it incorporated a mechanism that automatically returns to the medium distance when the slide barrier is opened and closed. Four body colors were available. This XA2 was the first camera to be awarded the Ministry of International Trade and Industry's Good Design Award.
